Missing woman's body found in Lake Onalaska

ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) - Emergency crews found the body of a reported missing 72-year-old Onalaska woman in Lake Onalaska near the BNSF railroad tracks near 2nd Avenue North Tuesday afternoon.

Onalaska Police Chief Jeff Trotnic says the woman's family was out looking for her, but did not report her as missing to police.

Onalaska police were notified at about 12:15 p.m. that the vehicle belonging to the woman was found at the Troy Street Wayside in the City of Onalaska.

The La Crosse County Sheriff's Department also responded to the scene and began searching for the missing woman.

At about 12:30 p.m., a fisherman reported a body in the water near the BNSF railroad tracks. Onalaska firefighters removed the body of a woman from the water.  The La Crosse County Medical Examiner was also on scene.

Onalaska police said no foul play is suspected. No additional information on this incident is available at this time.

The La Crosse County Sheriff's Department, the Wisconsin DNR, the Police Chaplains' Unit and the La Crosse County Emergency Dispatch Center also assisted Onalaska police with this incident.
