EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WKBT) -- One of Wisconsin's Democratic leaders is on a statewide tour to talk cannabis.
Senate Minority Leader Melissa Agard made a stop in Eau Claire on her Grass Routes Tour.
Sen. Agard has been pushing for the legalization of cannabis for the past ten years.
At these sessions, the senator is giving presentations about her legalization bill and answering questions about how cannabis legalization could affect their businesses, families, and community.
The GOP-controlled legislature has not allowed the senator's bill to be heard in the capitol, but Agard is confident that her bill could pass with bipartisan support.
Sen. Agard says prohibition isn't helping Wisconsin.
"There are people all across the state of Wisconsin that are taking their valuable time, as well as their hard-earned dollars, to travel to dispensaries in legal states and purchase legally regulated cannabis products and then bring them back to Wisconsin knowing that they may be putting themselves in a position of harm with our current laws," said Sen. Agard.
The senator's last stop on the tour is in Wausau, but she says she's heard enough feedback that she may create more stops in the future.
Republican lawmakers on the budget writing committee have already cut Governor Tony Evers' plans to legalize cannabis in his biennial budget proposal.
