ONALASKA (WKBT)-- Onalaska resident Lucas Herro isn't giving up. The 32-year-old para-archer is raising money to get his care staff to come with him to competitions.
"My goal is to represent our country in the 2024 Paralympics," Herro said.Â
He's been shooting his bows for almost two years but when funding to get him to his competitions began falling through, he started a fundraiser to continue his passion.Â
"I travel with care staff so I kind of did an outcry towards the community and ask for some help and funding," the para-archer explained.Â
In 2013, 85% of his body became paralyzed after Herro got into an accident near Black River Beach. Now he's trying to raise between $25,000-$30,000 to get to the 2024 Paralympics.Â
"I managed to raise quite a bit. so far, the support from the community has been overwhelming," Herro said.Â
So far, Herro has raised $8,000 and is confident his goal will be achieved. He will be training nonstop until the Paralympics.Â
