Gov. Evers kicks off Natl. Travel & Tourism Week in La Crosse with visit to gallery

The center got more than $288,000 from a tourism capital investment grant for improvements.

The Pump House was able to renovate its bathrooms and update seating in the theatre.

The governor's current biennial budget proposal includes investments to boost state tourism, especially when it comes to the arts.

"We're hoping to use some of the resources that came as a result of our surplus to set up, essentially, a fund of $100 million," said Gov. Evers. "Just the interest on that would give us a way to invest in the arts."

Gov. Evers said the state's tourism industry right now is exceeding expectations.

He says Wisconsin is bringing in more tourism income than surrounding states.
