LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse sculptor Mike Martino is looking for a few good chalk artists to contribute their talents to a La Crosse Arts Initiative project.
Martino, who is coordinating the chalk art project with D&G Design Group, sent an email to potential participants to gauge interest in the project.
“There is no need to provide any drawings yet,” Martino wrote, adding that respondents will receive an email next week with details on how to apply.
D&G Design Group is looking hire four artists to create signature chalk art pieces about 6 feet by 6 feet or larger.
“The images must relate to a positive future for downtown La Crosse as part of the IMAGINE 2040 city vision for the next 20 years,” according to Martino.
The images will draw attention to informational exhibits on Main Street at four locations between Fifth Avenue South and Second Street South on Main.
They will be created between Aug. 10 and 13, weather permitting, as a performing art piece to be completed during the day to draw interest to the engagement sites.
Artists will be asked to provide a black and white line drawing of their proposed design. The four artists will be chosen by the creativity of these drawings, the conception of the future and quality of the design, Martino wrote.
There also might be a need to:
• Hire two artists to stencil the project logo design at various locations leading from the DMI offices to the plaza at Second Street South and Main. If interested, respond specifically to this request.
• Hire artists to do chalk art in front of businesses that have given permission. If interested, respond specifically to this request.
Martino, who said he also will be drawing during the event, noted that chalk will be provided, but artists can bring their own tools and chalk. The artists would be paid as the budget allows, and the specific amount will be known by next week. The amount will be stated in the application email.
Martino asked that those interested respond to him this week to the La Crosse Arts Initiative email, thelaxartsinitiative@gmail.com
