HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) - An area animal hospital is helping our four-legged friends get back on their feet a little sooner.

Van Loon Animal Hospital in Holmen is treating hind leg ligament ruptures with a different kind of surgery that doesn't use plates and screws.

Veterinarians say the procedure is less expensive and less invasive than the traditional way of fixing the ligament tears.

"Clients like that, they like to see that their dogs aren't in discomfort, their convalesence period is much shorter, and the complications with this procedure are much less and we can manage them much easier," said Van Loon Animal Hospital owner Dr. Mark Hein.

Van Loon Animal Hospital says the procedure can be done on dogs of any size and can even be performed on cats.
