Flu cases increasing in La Crosse area

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - Area hospitals are seeing an increase in people with the flu this week.

Gundersen Health System staff say they're seeing cases of Influenza-A.

Those who've become sick have *not* had a flu vaccine.

Nationwide, Influenza-A has been the most common flu strain.

Doctors with Gundersen say the problem will only get worse in the coming weeks.

"Once we start seeing cases, we usually see a rise in cases when we have a rise in influenza season. So this is probably about a typical, average that influenza starts out," said Brian Simmons, Infection Control Practitioner, Gundersen Health System.

Mayo Clinic Health System says they've seen a small increase in flu cases.
