Fire departments hope community helps 'Keep the Wreath Green'
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - Some local fire departments are hoping that a little knowledge will keep the Happy In Your Holidays.
The La Crosse, Onalaska, La Crescent and Campbell fire departments have teamed up for the 'Keep the Wreath Green' fire prevention campaign.
Stations will have a wreath with green light bulbs and those bulbs will be replaced by a *red* bulb if there are any fires.
The campaign's focus is to just draw attention to how many fires happen each year.
"It's good any time I think you can have a visual cue or something visually that they community can look at and see, I think it impacts the gravity a little bit more," said La Crosse Fire Department community risk educator Pat Corran.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are the leading days for home fires each year in the United States.
