LA CROSSE (WKBT)-- The La Crosse School District's $60Â million referendum will be on the ballot in April.
A combination of a lack of state funding, declining enrollment, and aging facilities has led to the district asking taxpayers for more support.
According to the district, the multimillion-dollar referendum will go towards "ensuring schools are up to date and [to] provide the basics."
The district is offering six informational sessions, open to the public, so that community members can come listen, and ask questions.
Karla Doolittle attended the third information session at Logan Middle School on Thursday, March 9. She hopes for more transparency from the district, and for an increase in teachers' pay.
"If you would tell me that a percentage of this would just go to teacher increase pay … I would be completely on board. But you don't."
Doolittle feels the referendum's website is confusing, which according to her, makes her lose trust in the district.
"There's a lot of things that are hidden on the website, it's hard to find things on the website, and some things they don't put up on the website until someone sends them an email," said Doolittle.

Anna is very excited to be joining the WKBT family! Originally from Marshfield, WI, Anna is heading into her last semester as a college undergraduate student at UW-La Crosse. She is the Social Justice Reporter for UWL's student-run newspaper, and is also involved in a number of other on-campus extracurriculars. Anna is studying Communications with an emphasis in Public Communication & Advocacy, and will be receiving her BA this coming May. She also interned with ABC at WXOW News 19 in La Crescent, MN last summer and hopes to continue building her skills as a Multimedia Journalist at News 8000.
