Winona woman shot in leg during home invasion

WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) - A Winona woman is recovering after being shot in the leg during a reported home invasion early Saturday morning.

The 28-year-old victim called Winona police around 3:45 a.m., December 15, from W. 5th Street to report the incident.

The victim heard a knock at the door, answered it and was immediately shot by an unknown black male, about 30-year-old, six feet tall wearing dark clothing. The man demanded cash and left with the woman's billfold which contained money, police said.

The woman was taken to an area hospital, was treated for a gunshot wound and released.

The Winona Police Department is looking for assistance in identifying the suspect. Police do not believe this is a random incident.
