Todd Kendhammer found guilty of murder one year ago

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - Todd Kendhammer was found guilty of first degree intentional homicide one year ago today, December 14, 2017.

A guilty verdict was handed down following more than nine hours of deliberations by the jury. Prosecutors for the state claimed that Kendhammer killed his wife and then staged a freak car accident to cover it up.

On March 9, 2018, Judge Todd Bjerke sentenced Todd Kendhammer to life in prison, with a chance of parole after 30 years.

In May, Kendhammer hired a new attorney, Jerome Buting, who is known for being one of the attorneys who defended Steven Avery in the Netflix documentary "Making of a Murderer."

The deadline for Kendhammer to file an appeal is December 20, 2018, according to court records.
