LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - A division chief with the La Crosse Fire Department was arrested for possession of child pornography Tuesday.

Francis Devine, Division Fire Chief of Station 1 in La Crosse, appeared in La Crosse County Court Wednesday. Devine is charged with one count of possession of child pornography.

According to the criminal complaint, Devine told authorities he had been curious about child pornography and when he observed a photograph he believed was child porn, he had looked at other images also believed to be child pornography in the same thread.

According to La Crosse Fire Department Assistant Chief Jeff Murphy, "These are serious allegations that will be handled by the authorities." Devine has been put on administrative leave.

Judge Elliott Levine released Devine on a $5,000 signature bond. His next scheduled court appearance is April 10, 2019.
