COON VALLEY, Wis. (WKBT) – Coon Valley Police arrested a Gays Mills woman after she was found traveling more than 70 miles per hour over the speed limit in Coon Valley Friday.
According to a news release from the Coon Valley Police Department, Vernon County dispatchers received calls from concerned drivers who reported someone traveling at very high speeds in Viroqua, Highway 14/61, and Westby.
Authorities say they eventually discovered 35-year-old Amanda McKaig driving more than 100 miles per hour in Coon Valley’s 30 MPH speed zone.
McKaig attempted to flee when an officer was at her open door during the traffic stop, the release says. Police had to use physical force before she was arrested.

McKaig is booked at the Vernon County Detention Center. Officers say they are recommending felony charges of recklessly endangering safety and attempted fleeing. McKaig is also facing a preliminary misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest, and multiple traffic citations.
McKaig is being held in jail on a $3,000 cash bond, the release says.
Authorities say McKaig’s passenger was released at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
