Blue Ribbon breakfast honors people caring for children

Child caregivers recognized with breakfast event

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - Recognition is given to people who work with or care for children in our community.

The Blue Ribbon Appreciation and Award breakfast was held in La Crosse Friday morning.

The event comes during National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

There were 42,500 abuse reports received by Child Protective Services in Wisconsin in 2017

Event organizers say everyone can help to stop child abuse.

"Who does great kids start with? It starts with you, everyone.  So whether or not your a child or an adult, we all can create great kids by the smallest or the biggest things we do in our community," said Nicole Milliren, Chairperson of the Child Abuse Prevention Task Force.

Volunteers also placed blue ribbons on trees along Main Street to raise awareness.
