85-year-old Prairie du Chien man dies after being struck by vehicle

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WIs. (WKBT) - The Prairie du Chien Police Department released a statement saying that Donald Cipra, 85, of Prairie du Chien died after being struck by a vehicle near the 1200 block of East LaPointe St. on Thursday. Police say the vehicle, a 2011 Jeep, was being driven by Nathan Baker, 43, who is also from Prairie du Chien.

Officers and Tri-State Ambulance paramedics were called to the scene at about 3:30 p.m. and attempted life-saving measures on Cipra, but he died at the scene as a result of his injuries, according to the statement.

Police say the street had to be closed for about 3.5 hours while the Wisconsin State Patrol reconstructed the crash.

The police department was assisted on the scene by the Prairie du Chien Fire Department, The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, Tri-State EMS, the Crawford County Highway Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Clayton County Iowa Sheriff’s Department and Milo’s Towing.

Baker is cooperating with the investigation, which is being done by Prairie du Chien police along with the State Patrol.
