Badgers Head Coach Debuts In Coulee Region

New Badger Head football Coach Paul Chryst was campaigning for some early support in town on Tuesday evening.

Chryst stopped by the Mendota Gridiron Club event held at the Stoney Creek Inn in Onalaska. Alongside defensive coordinator Dave Aranda and fellow assistants, Chryst came ready to talk the hot topic of the off-season in Madison, the quarterback spot.

Local residents were excited to hear from a coach that actually wants to stick around for the long term. The alumnus though did not have the fondest memories of the La Crosse area growing up.

“When my dad was coaching at UW-Platteville we would come up and play the La Crosse teams,” said Chryst. “La Crosse had some great teams. To be honest with you, I hated coming up to La Crosse because I knew it would be a tough game for my dad.”

Chryst is using spring practice as a time to weigh the program’s strengths and weakness at each position. The Badgers are still more than five months away from the opener in Arlington, Texas against Alabama.
