News 8 hosts weather radio event Friday in La Crosse
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Dozens of people in the La Crosse community showed up to our first weather radio event of the season on Friday.
StormTeam 8 and the La Crosse National Weather Service (NWS) teamed up to help people program their weather radio at the Walgreens on 900 West Ave. South in La Crosse. The event was held from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Weather radios alert you of severe weather when it’s approaching your area.
Meteorologists Bill Graul and Cory Malles were there and Michelle Poedel joined them after News 8 at Noon. Todd Shea and Jeff Boyne from the NWS were also there to help.
“The nice thing about weather radios is that they can sit there and monitor our transmitters, our radio signals, all the time,” Shea said.” When we issue a tornado watch, a tornado warning, it can alert you so you don’t have to be constantly monitoring the conditions.”
