New parking ramp, police bldg. planned on UW-L campus

LA CROSSE, Wis. — Construction on a new UW-La Crosse parking ramp is expected to start this summer. Tuesday night, residents learned more about the proposed project at a public hearing on campus.

The project includes building a 500 spot parking ramp as well as a new building to help get the UW-L security department up to date. “The UW-L police department and parking services group is currently in an old 1950’s ranch that was probably okay when it was a small security department but in no way shape or form can accomodate what a modern police department needs to do on a modern campus,” says UW-L’s Executive Director of Facilities and Planning Matt Lewis.

The project comes with a price tag of about 12 million dollars paid for by increasing the cost of parking permits.
