New member approved for La Crosse Center Board

City of La Crosse celebrates the history of the La Crosse Center

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The La Crosse Center Board  is expected to add a new member in hopes of mending a relationship between the city and county.

The decision comes after the La Crosse County board voted down financial support for center renovations in August.

Most of the county board approved $138,000 for the La Crosse Center, but not enough members voted yes for the proposal to pass.

Those who voted no said there was a lack of county board involvement during the renovation discussions.

Although the La Crosse County Board did approve $150,000 as a part of the 2020 budget, the Judiciary and Administrative Committee Chair, Andrea Richmond,  says this motion will help turn the page and create a better relationship between the city and the county in the future.

“We talk about collaboration, we talk about working with our whole community, and I think that’s very important for the negotiations that went on with the La Crosse Center,” said Richmond. “Going forward for the next budget year, I’m hoping that the city and the county can work together.”

The motion now moves to the full city council, if approved, the county board will choose who they would like to appoint.
