New Lisbon principal charged in altercation with student sentenced
NEW LISBON, Wis. (WKBT) — A New Lisbon principal charged with battery and disorderly conduct made a plea Tuesday in Juneau County Court.
Gary Syftestad, Principal of New Lisbon High School, appeared in court with his attorney Daniel Berkos.
Syftestad was charged with battery and disorderly conduct. The battery charge was dismissed in court.
Syftestad plead no contest to the disorderly conduct charge, and the court found him guilty. He was fined $465.60.
According to a criminal complaint, Syftestad grabbed and twisted a student’s nipples and pushed the student against a locker in May 2018.
The following day the principal made an apology for his actions at an assembly at the school.
A restitution hearing is scheduled for August 16, 2019.
New Lisbon Superintendent Dennis Birr declined to comment on the court proceedings. He confirmed that Syftestad will be continuing as principal.
