New fire station progress in La Crosse
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A new fire station could be coming to La Crosse’s south side.
A contingent offer has been put in on a piece of land near the intersection of 33-rd Street and Mormon Coulee Road.
Fire department staff are hopeful deal will be finalized with in the next month.
As the La Crosse and Shelby work towards a boundary agreement, the new station would meet a need in the area.
“We’ve been looking at placement based on that addition of the city to the south and over the last really, ten to fifteen years, we’ve done numerous studies where our call volume continues to grow to the south, that’s the one direction the city can kind of grow between the rivers and the bluffs,” said La Crosse Fire Department chief Ken Gilliam.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation would need to make some approvals, due to the location.
