New field trip program growing La Crosse area students’ knowledge of agriculture

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse-area students are learning about rural and urban agriculture during a new field trip program.

The “GROW” program gives kids the opportunity to learn about how plants are grown in different locations at Western Technical College’s Horticulture Education Center and at the Deep Roots Community Farm.

“When they come to the greenhouse, this is a high tech space. They’re able to see how we would grow inside in these kinds of conditions and compare that to how they might be growing at their own schools or out at a farm,” said Grow Executive Director Kari Bersagel Braley.

The field trips are possible because of grants from Compeer Financial and the La Crosse Public Education Foundation.
