Nelson man charged with homicide in woman’s death
NELSON, Wis. (WKBT) — A Nelson man was charged Tuesday in connection with the death of Jolene Medeiros on Sunday.
Jonathan P. Medeiros, 38, was charged in Buffalo County Circuit Court with the first degree intentional homicide of his wife, who was also 38 years old.
According to the criminal complaint, Medeiros called police Sunday to report that he had shot his wife and she was deceased. Buffalo County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find Jolene on the floor of the bedroom with significant trauma to her head and determined she was dead.
According to the complaint, when questioned about the incident, Medeiros told investigators, “I stood up out of bed, grabbed a shotgun, and [expletive] shot once. She was screaming at me, going ape [expletive] at me, and I shot again.”
Investigators say Medeiros smelled of alcohol.
During his initial appearance Tuesday, a court official set a $500,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 5.
