NCAA Tournament: No. 3 Purdue vs. No. 14 Old Dominion

The No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers will take on the No. 14 Old Dominion Monarchs at 9:50 p.m. ET Thursday in a first-round matchup in the South Region.

The Boilermakers, who shared the Big Ten regular-season championship with Michigan State, were bounced by Minnesota in their first game of the conference tournament.

Purdue is already very familiar with the NCAA Tournament, making their fifth straight appearance this season and reaching back-to-back Sweet 16s in the past two years.

However, the team hasn’t made it to the Elite Eight since the 2000 tournament and are hoping to reach at least that far this time around.

To do so, they will rely on junior guard Carsen Edwards, who led the Big Ten in scoring with 23 points per game.

Old Dominion will be led by senior guards B.J. Stith and Ahmad Caver. The former leads the team in scoring (16.9) and rebounding (7.5) while the latter adds his own 16.5 points per game to go along with a team-high 5.6 assists.

The Monarchs won the Conference USA regular-season and tournament championships to qualify for the tournament for the first time since 2011.

Old Dominion is playing in their 12th NCAA Tournament, posting a 3-11 record over those appearances.

The winner will take on the winner of Thursday night’s game between sixth-seeded Villanova, the defending national champions, and 11th-seeded Saint Mary’s.
