National drug take back day comes to La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- Across the country, many people are dropping off their old drugs in a safe way during National Drug Take-Back Day.

The La Crosse County Health Department and other organizations have been working to reduce drug-related deaths in the area.

Educators say medications should never be flushed or poured down the drain.

These potentially dangerous pharmaceutical substances can contribute to the contamination of our water supply.

“And really overall it’s just a community risk reduction effort. If we can safely dispose of these medications we can make sure the ones with potential for misuse or abuse are safely out of the hands of the ones that shouldn’t be using them,” said Community Risk Educator, Pat Corran.

Fifteen medication drop boxes have been installed at public buildings, pharmacies, law enforcement agencies, and other locations throughout La Crosse County.
