Myrick park hosts ‘Run for Honor” 5K race
LA CROSSE, Wis. — Many people, from police to military to emergency medical technicians risk their lives to serve our community.
On Saturday, the La Crosse Navy League held an event to honor those fallen while doing so, as well as to recognize the living. Myrick Park hosted the Run for Honor 5K race.
The event started with a rose ceremony to honor the fallen, followed by the 5K to support the living. Proceeds from the event go to support service members and their families.
Event organizers say they hope to continue the event for years to come.
“We try to do this every year,” said Bob Marconi, president of the La Crosse Area Navy League. “We’ll kind of continue this as long as we can. But it’s a great event. It’s a chance to honor those who have fallen and recognize those who serve us in uniform. Then celebrate with a run walk event through our beautiful marsh trails here in La Crosse.”
Proceeds from this year’s race will go toward the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society and Freedom Honor Flight.
