MTU celebrates National Transit Week with new route
MTU provides 1.2 million rides each year
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The city of La Crosse is encouraging people to use public transportation this week.
As part of National Transit Week La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat rode the bus this morning on the MTU’s new circulator route.
The route makes stops every 10 minutes taking people to the downtown area.
The MTU gives about 1.2 million rides to the people of La Crosse every year.
The mayor says many of those people depend on the buses to get them where they need to go.
“Those folks are taking the bus for appointments, for work, for school and it really provides, I think, a critical service for the workforce and economic development here in the city,” says La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat.
The mayor says using city buses can also cut down on traffic and congestion in downtown La Crosse especially with so much construction happening.
