Mostly Sunny But Unseasonably Cold Today… Light Snow Wednesday
Tuesday’s Forecast High: 22F / Tonight’s Low: 14F – Last updated Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 8:50 AM…
It was an unseasonably cold morning across the region. The low at the La Crosse airport was 7F, which missed tying the record low of 5F (1986) by just 2 degrees. NW winds 5-10 mph caused wind chills in the 0F to -12F range. Brrrr!
The good news today is we’ll see lots of sunshine. The bad news is high temps will only manage the upper teens to low 20s. Keep in mind our average high this time of year is 46F and our average low is 30F! It won’t be as windy as Monday was, with NW winds 5-15 mph, becoming southerly later this afternoon.
Clouds increase tonight in advance of a clipper system approaching from the northwest. As a result, temps won’t be quite as cold as last night… with lows ranging from the upper single digits (east) to low-mid teens. These lows will likely be set this evening, with temps possibly rising a couple degrees after midnight. However, it will also turn breezy tonight with south winds 10-20 and gusts to 25 mph possible… making it feel quite a bit colder than the actual air temps.
That clipper will bring a good chance of light snow tomorrow. As of now, it’s looking like light accumulations ranging from a 1/2″ to 2″ will be possible across the viewing area. It looks like the bulk of this snow would arrive after the morning commute, but roads could become slippery as the day progresses. This could make for a slippery afternoon/evening commute for many. Be sure to stay tuned for updates. High temps tomorrow will be in the mid-upper 20s.
Looking Ahead… Some sunshine returns Thursday as highs climb into the low 30s. More sunshine is expected Friday, and it won’t be quite as cold with highs in the upper 30s.
Expect highs in the upper 30s to near 40F for the weekend as well, with increasing clouds Saturday. We’ll pick up another slight chance of light snow or rain/snow mix Saturday night into Sunday.
Monday is looking mostly cloudy with highs in the low 40s. Another disturbance will bring a chance of a light mix or rain showers Monday night into Tuesday. Highs Tuesday will be in the low 40s. More seasonable temps are expected Wednesday with highs in the mid 40s, under partly sunny skies.
In the meantime, bundle up today… and have a good Tuesday! -Bill Graul
