Here is the list the top 10 most clicked local news of the year on News8000.com. These are the stories with the most views from Jan. 1 through Dec. 15, 2014.

1. Fiery crash involving 5 vehicles closes I-90 near La Crosse
Five people were injured and Jason Songer, 29, of La Crescent died in a six-vehicle crash on I-90 near mile marker 2 near La Crosse on Thursday, July 24. The Wisconsin State Patrol arrested Francis Rychtik, of Arpin, on a homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle charge in October.

2. WSU student found dead in food elevator of Fountain City restaurant
Winona State University student Brooke Baures was found entangled in a food elevator on Monday, December 1 at the WingDam Saloon and Grill in Fountain City where she worked. Fountain City police said criminal activity was not suspected. Autopsy results showed she died of severe head trauma.

3. 3 dead in head-on crash in Onalaska
Three people died in a head-on crash in Onalaska on Highway 35 just north of County Rd. Z on Tuesday, November 25. Lacey J. Daily, 23, of Onalaska; Mary Lu Dolbee, 87, of Holmen; Karen Dolbee, 60, of Holmen, died in the crash. There were no other serious injuries.

4. One person is dead after car pulled from Mississippi River in La Crosse
On Wednesday, January 1, Ellen Marie “Ellie” Ahmann, 21, died after her car fell through the ice and went into the Mississippi River in La Crosse. The car went into the water at Swift Creek near the intersection of Norplex Drive and Jackson. Autopsy results called Ahmann’s death an accidental drowning. 

5. Explosion Midwest Industrial Asphalt in La Crosse
At about 7 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, an explosion injured a worker at Midwest Industrial Asphalt.  A Shelter in Place order was issued to keep the community safe as firefighters worked to contain the fire. La Crosse Fire Chief Gregg Cleveland said crews were able to stop the runoff of chemicals and contain it to one tank. He said the tank had a mixture of 70-percent asphalt and 30-percent diesel.

6. Four people dead after SUV crashes through ice in Winona
Four people died after the SUV they were in crashed through the ice into a Winona river at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 5.  Christina Lee Hauser, 36, of Winona, and Matthew Erickson, 30, were found inside the vehicle. Blake Eric Overland, 28, of Stewartville, was found by underwater cameras in the river a day later. After a two-week-long search, crews found Andrew Kingsbury, 29, of La Crosse.

7. Jennifer Livingston, Mike Thompson’s daughter recovering from accident
On Tuesday, February 11, Mike Thompson and Jennifer Livingston’s 5-year-old daughter Finley was hospitalized after being hit and run over by a van in La Crosse.  Finley is still doing well.

8. Mayflies hatch in La Crosse
We had our first big Mayfly hatch of the season on Sunday, July 20. The hatch was so large you could see it on radar maps. The bugs are harmless and they’re actually a sign of a healthy river because they can only reproduce in areas with high-quality water.

9. 3 people died in crash on Wis. 95 near Arcadia
Three people died in a head-on two vehicle crash on State Trunk Highway 95 at Sorlie Lane between Blair and Arcadia on Monday, August 18. The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office said the driver of the SUV, Patrice M. Hamerski, 57, of Trempealeau, died. The driver of the minivan, Donald J. Lewallen, 34, and passenger Austin C. Lemon, 14, both of Augusta, Wisconsin, also died in the crash.

10. Police frustrated after drug dealer arrested twice in 3 days
The arrest of the same drug dealer twice in the span of three days frustrated the La Crosse Police Department. Shawn Welch, 21, was arrested Tuesday, January 14 on multiple counts of delivering crack cocaine and ecstasy.  He appeared in court later that day and, despite the D.A.’s calls for a high cash bond, was released on a $1,000 cash bond.
