Monroe Co. offers residents reduced-priced well water test kits, limited quantity

MONROE CO., Wis. (WKBT) – Monroe County is making sure residents have safe drinking water.

It has 130 reduced-cost well water test kits available for homeowners in the county on a first-come-first-serve basis.

These kits typically cost $55, but Monroe County residents can buy one for $20.

To get a kit you have to pre-register by calling the Monroe County Land Conservation Department at 608-269-8973 or through its online registration form.

You must request one by 4:30 pm on March 12th.

You can pick it up on Tuesday, March 16th; or Friday, March 19th at the Land Conservation Office (820 Industrial Drive, STE 3, Sparta).

Once you collect your water sample, return it by Monday, March 22nd at the Land Conservation Office.

This opportunity is part of a project between the Monroe County Health Department, Monroe County Land Conservation Department, and UW Extension to implement a well water testing program funded by a grant by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Here are the goals of this project:
  • Increase the number of Monroe County residents who can test their groundwater.
  • Create a baseline of groundwater quality in Monroe County
  • Provide groundwater education
  • Use information to guide future land use planning
