Monroe Co. Board approves design for new justice center
The design was approved on a 20 to 3 vote
SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) — An issue in Monroe County that has seen more than a decade of debate and a recall election appears to finally be resolved.
The Monroe County Board approved the design of a new justice center Wednesday night with a 20 to 3 vote.
The estimated 25-million dollar building will be located in downtown Sparta, next to the existing court house.
It will include dispatch, the jail, courts, and the county sheriff’s office. “There are so many different considerations here, security, functioning, there’s just a lot of different people who have to be satisfied. And I think we’ve done it,” said Judge David Rice who is also the Chairperson of the Justice Center Building Committee.
The project will go out to bid next month. Assuming the bids come in on budget, construction could start in April.23444276
