Mississippi Valley Conservancy gets $1 million anonymous donation
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Efforts to conserve land in our area are getting a big boost from a private donor.
The Mississippi Valley Conservancy says a person who wishes to stay anonymous recently gave them a donation of $1,000,000.
It’s the largest gift the organization has ever received.
The donor gave them the money to help them set up an endowment and challenged them to match the total through other donations.
The conservancy’s executive director says they hope the donation acts as a seed that will help the organization grow into the future.
“The exciting thing about a gift like this is that it will allow us to do more of the work that we do. Every day we have land owners who are calling us and they want to protect their land, and it’s really difficult, we don’t have the capacity to get to everybody as quickly as we’d like to,” said MVC Executive Director Carol Abrahamzon.
The conservancy hopes to eventually grow the endowment from $1,000,000 to $3,000,000.
