Minnesota State of the State focused on COVID-19 response, community efforts
LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WKBT)– Minnesota’s State of the State address by the Governor took a different tone this year.
Governor Tim Walz (DFL) focused the entire speech on the coronavirus pandemic. Instead of talking about policy, the budget or any priorities he’d like the legislature to address, Walz focused on coming together.
He pointed to uplifting stories from around the state as a sign of ongoing support and hope. That includes people donating masks to help healthcare workers on the front lines.
“Because we are Minnesotans. We see challenges—and we tackle them. No matter how daunting the challenge; no matter how dark the times; Minnesota has always risen up—by coming together,” said Walz, during the speech televised on YouTube.
In response, House Minority Leader Rep. Kurt Daudt(R-Crown) said the legislature has worked hard to create solutions for workers after the crisis is over. Daudt added both parties are working with the governor with a common goal to fight the pandemic and help Minnesotans.
