Mild & Muggy Again Tonight, Slim Chance For A Shower -Bill Graul
Record Heat Again Possible For Some Thursday
Tonight’s Forecast Low: 71F / Thursday’s Forecast High: 97F…
Hot and humid again today, with a high of 97F at the La Crosse airport. This broke the old record high of 96F, set just 6 years ago in 2015. It also marked the 7th day in a row with a high of 90F or hotter.
Slim chance for an isolated shower/t-storm in spots this evening… through about midnight. Otherwise another mild and muggy night with lows ranging from the mid 60s to low 70s. Winds will be light from the SE around 5 mph.
Record heat will again be possible for some on Thursday, with highs in the mid 90s. I’m forecasting a high of 97F again in La Crosse and the record stands at 96F, set in 2017. Expect sunny to partly cloudy skies with isolated showers/t-storms possible during the afternoon hours and into part of Thursday night. Heat index values will rise into the upper 90s to low 100s during peak heating, especially in the river valleys.
A cool front will bring a slightly better chance for some scattered showers and storms on Friday, especially Friday afternoon and evening. It will still be hot and humid before the front arrives, with highs in the low-mid 90s. Depending on the timing of the front, there could be some strong storms in parts of the region… so stay tuned for updates.
Looking Ahead… The front will break the humidity heading into the weekend, but temps will remain well above average. It won’t be quite as hot Saturday, with highs in the mid-upper 80s… then upper 80s to low 90s look likely for Sunday. Dew points should drop back into the 50s, so it won’t feel nearly as humid as this week has.
Hopefully we will get some rain on Friday, because forecast models are now advertising mainly dry conditions for our area for all or most of next week. Highs will mainly be in the mid-upper 80s, with lows in the low-mid 60s. Humidity should remain lower next week as well… and this will just add to drying lawns and crops out. Unfortunately it’s looking like drought conditions will worsen across the region.
In the meantime, stay cool and have a good night! -Bill Graul
