Merchants Bank 10 Days of Giving in Winona collect 139,000 pounds of food

WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) — Merchants Bank’s 10 Days of Giving food drive gathered 139,262 pounds of food for Winona Volunteer Services, the bank announced Monday.

The number of pounds of food collected included $67,679.77 in cash and 3,902 pounds of food. Two pounds of food are counted for each dollar collected. Through the same time last year, 86,567 pounds of food had been collected.

The weight total includes the 1,640 pounds that were collected at the Pack the Bus and Drive Out Hunger event that was held on Saturday, December 5 in the Merchants Bank downtown location parking lot.

“It fills my heart with gratitude to see the Winona community band together to support this worthy cause, especially this year. Thank you to everyone who has participated in our modified events and donated so far – don’t forget there’s still time to give, let’s finish this year strong!” said Jennifer Welch, 10 Days of Giving Committee Chair.

Last year, 236,495 pounds of food were collected. The drive started this year with 3,748,746 pounds collected through its first 31 years.
