Medford man killed in head-on crash with semi cab in Monroe County
TOWN OF LA GRANGE, Wis. (WKBT) — A 20-year-old Medford, Wis., man was killed early Monday when the car he was driving crossed the center line on State Hwy. 21 and was involved in a crash with a semi-truck cab in La Grange.
Kyle Petrick was killed outright when his westbound 2008 Chevrolet Malibu hit the eastbound semi cab head-on, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The Monroe County Communications Center received the report about the crash on Hwy. 21 just west of Enterprise Road at about 6 a.m.
The semi cab was a 2003 Freightliner operated by Richard Murphy, 52, of Ontario, Wis. A juvenile was a passenger in the truck, according to the sheriff’s office. Petrick died at the scene, and an ambulance took the juvenile to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. Murphy was not injured.
Hwy. 21 was shut down for almost six hours during the investigation and removal of a large amount of debris and diesel fuel spilled.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol investigated, with the assistance of the Tomah Police Department, Oakdale Fire Department, Tomah Area Ambulance Service, Tomah Fire Department Rescue Techs, Monroe County Hazardous Materials Response Team, Tomah Wrecker Service, Monroe County Emergency Management and the Monroe County Highway Department.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
