Mayor proclaims Sept. 25 ‘Carl Miller Day’
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A La Crosse native is being honored for his work throughout the country.
Friday Mayor Tim Kabat proclaimed September 25th as Carl Miller Day. The 81-year-old Miller started out his journey in La Crosse as a teacher. He then moved on to become the athletic director at three different universities across the country. Miller was just awarded the James J. Corbett Memorial Award from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
During his long career, he spear-headed a number of different projects in La Crosse, including the New Riverside Bandshell and a newly-started effort to build a pool at Central High school. But for Miller, this is hardly considered work.
“Well I never looked at it as work. I’m still as my wife says working, I’m not working, I’m having fun creating new relationships and getting projects done that need to be done,” said Miller.
Miller and his wife both now live in La Crosse.
