Mayo, GROW La Crosse partner to teach kids gardening

Organizations encourage healthy eating through gardening

A pair of local organizations are teaming up to encourage healthy eating.

Mayo Clinic Health System will be a sponsor for the newly-renamed GROW La Crosse. The non-profit group was formerly known as Grow Your Brain.

They aim to educate kids about eating healthy and staying physically active by teaching them about gardening.

GROW La Crosse board president Anne Seehafer says growing vegetables is a good way to get kids excited about eating them.

“It’s funny, but kids love to grow things,” said Seehafer. “The idea of growing something and watching it sprout, and knowing they put that seed in the ground makes a world of difference.”

GROW La Crosse currently maintains more than 450 square feet of garden space at State Road and Hamilton elementary schools in La Crosse.
