Mayo Clinic warns parents of back to school separation anxiety
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- As school is set to start back up next week for many schools around the area, experts at Mayo Clinic Health System want parents to be on the lookout for separation anxiety.
Mayo says kids have been at home for a long time because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and some students might not be looking forward to the first day of school this year.
Mayo doctors say that parents know their kids best, so if something doesn’t feel right, talk to them.
“But past that, if there aren’t any acute symptoms, feel free to talk to your kid a little bit more about what else is going on in their life and then reach out to your doctor to see if further investigation is necessary,” said Mayo Family Physician, Dr. Tina Ardon.
Experts say one of the best tools is to be prepared and to have open conversations with your kids.
