Mayo Clinic warns community of back pain

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- Health Experts at Mayo Clinic Health System want to make sure people are taking the right steps in treating back pain.

Mayo Clinic says the most common type of back pain is lower back pain and it affects most Americans at some point in their life.

Mayo Health says anyone can develop back pain, even children and teens.

But back pain is more common as you get older, starting around age 30 or 40.

There are various reasons back pain may occur such as lack of exercise, excess body weight, and even some types of arthritis.

Mayo Health doctors say it also depends on how you take care of your back.

“Most commonly when I see the surgical condition of back pain, it’s with people who do a lot of manual labor, a lot of lifting, also a lot of patients who dont necessarily practice good back health, and back posture. who don’t exercise to support their lower back,” said Mayo Clinic Neurosurgeon, Dr. Kendall Snyder.

Snyder says that some of the best ways to treat back pain are by resting and physical therapy.
