Mayo Clinic Health System makes donations to local charities in honor of doctors

In celebration of National Doctors' Day
Mayo Clinic buys land in Onalaska

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) –  Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare donated funds to local charities in honor of its physicians in celebration of National Doctors’ Day today.

This year providers donated to many local food pantries as they experience a higher-volume of clients due to COVID-19.

“The Hunger Task Force is La Crosse’s only Food Bank and we serve nearly 110 food programs.  We anticipate food pantry and meal site closures and decreased access to emergency food, but we are working with our programs and other groups to creatively and safely bring food to those in need,” says  Shelly Fortner, Executive Director of The Hunger Task Force of La Crosse. “Their support at this time is crucial, and we appreciate so much that you are a partner in our mission to alleviate hunger!”

The 2020 donation recipients are:

  • Couleecap, Inc., Prairie du Chien, WI
  • Neighbor for Neighbor Food Pantry, Tomah, WI
  • Onalaska/Holmen Emergency Food Basket, Holmen, WI and Onalaska, WI
  • Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) Mission Food Pantry, Arcadia, WI
  • Semcac Community Action Agency, Caledonia, MN
  • The Bread Basket, Sparta, WI
  • The Hunger Task Force of La Crosse, La Crosse, WI
  • WAFER, La Crosse, WI

National Doctors’ Day, established as a national day of recognition in 1991, works to identify and celebrate the accomplishments and efforts of all physicians.
