Mayo Clinic Health System – La Crosse receives first Johnson & Johnson vaccine shipment
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine is now available at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.
This will open up more appointments starting March 29.
It’s a one-dose vaccine, which means you won’t need to worry about scheduling a second appointment.
Since the vaccine first rolled out there has been some public concern about how effective this vaccine is compared to Pfizer and Moderna.
Mayo health experts said Friday it’s just as good as the first two.
“It’s really comparable to both Pfizer and Moderna in terms of how much it prevents the end targets that we’re looking for,” said Erin Morcomb, MD. “So, severe COVID-19 infections that result in great disability for patients, including having to be hospitalized and on a ventilator or death – [the vaccine] 100% prevented hospitalization and death.”
Due to supply limitations, Mayo Clinic is not allowing patients to choose which vaccine they get at this time.
You can find more information about the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at Mayo Clinic’s website.
