Mayo Clinic Health System doctors give tips to avoid respiratory illness

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Cases of respiratory illnesses like influenza and RSV continue to rise.

According to Mayo Clinic Health System, COVID-19 is still actively affecting people of all ages in the La Crosse community.

Doctors recommend you stay up to date on vaccines and wash your hands frequently.

And when it comes to sick kids, doctors say parents need to keep this in mind before sending a child back to school.

“If the fever is gone for more than 24 hours and they’re no longer sneezing or having a runny nose, symptoms of decline, then they can go back to school,” said Dr. Raj Palraj, an infectious disease physician at Mayo Clinic Health System.

Doctors also recommend people use the same guidelines when deciding whether to go to their family Thanksgiving dinner.
