LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – May marks the beginning of Melanoma or Skin Cancer Awareness Month. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, more than five million people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year.

That makes skin cancer the most common type of cancer in the United States. Fortunately, Melanoma is also one of the most preventative types of cancer.

The vast majority of Melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancers are associated with ultraviolet radiation from the sun, Wearing hats that block the sun and sunscreen are good ways to avoid radiation. If you have any questions or concerns, be sure to contact your medical provider.
