MaryAnn Nancy Thelen, age 75, passed away on April 1st, 2021. She was born in Newark, NJ to Michael Wortch and Pauline Neweski. She graduated from Emerson High School, in Union City, NJ in 1964.

MaryAnn married Leonard Thelen, of La Farge, WI on Dec 22nd, 1972. MaryAnn made her home in La Farge, Wisconsin, and later moved with Leonard, to Viroqua. MaryAnn also graduated from Western Technical College in La Crosse. She had 4 children, and was a foster parent for many other children and adults. She was involved in many foster organizations, such as WIFPO over the years at local and state levels, and was very involved in Special Olympics for many years as well. She had a positive impact on many lives. She loved to garden, both flowers and vegetables, and loved to do crafts. She made many smile with the “whimsy” she decorated them with.

She is survived by her husband Leonard, her son Christopher, her daughters, Barbara, and Julie, her daughter-in-law’s, Jennifer Thelen, and Dawn Ford, and her many grandchildren, Nickolas, Gabrielle, Aeryn, Zackery, Meghan, Quintin, Andrew, Kyrstin, Kevin, and Dakota. She also is survived by a number of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as the many foster children and adults she cared for.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and in-laws, Kenneth Thelen and Fern Strang, her sister Arlene Petrizzio, her son, Richard and foster son, Alan Bass.

MaryAnn requested, as well as her family, that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Wisconsin Chapter of the ALS Association (als.org).

MaryAnn’s family would like to thank The WI ALS Chapter, Gunderson Lutheran Hospital, The Vernon Memorial Hospital and Thorson Funeral Home.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday April 15th at 11 a.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua with Pastor Paul Roberts officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. on Thursday until the time of service at the funeral home.

The Thorson Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Viroqua is serving the family.
