Mary (Helen Marie Clark) Pedretti Age 97 of Janesville passed away on Tuesday August 4th at the Edgerton Care Center in Edgerton Wisc. She was born at home on July 12, 1923 to James and Ella Clark of Viroqua. As an infant Helen’s nickname immediately became Mary and she has gone by this name her entire life. As a young child her family moved to a farm on HWY 56 near Viroqua. Typical of her generation she helped milk cows by hand, work in tobacco fields, hay fields, raised chickens and gardened. Mary also picked berries and gathered nuts. Mary walked 1 mile to a one room country schoolhouse where she was educated through the 8th grade. After meeting the love of her life, Alvin Pedretti they were united in marriage on February 25, 1945. Their wedding took place on a Monday at St James Catholic Church in Rising Sun. A reception was held at the Oriole Café in Viroqua followed by a dance. Mary and Alvin’s first home and occupation was on a farm near Viroqua where they raised their children. Mary lost the love of her life on March 3, 1969, leaving her to raise 9 month old Dale and the rest of the family. Besides being a housewife and mother, Mary worked in tobacco fields, Dunnums and Main Street Restaurants and Laundromats. To add to Mary’s heartache, her daughter Elaine passed away at age 43 in March of 1990 and her son Richard passed away in June of 2007. Mary kept her family close with family dinners at holiday time and other occasions. She is noted for making the best pork chops, beef roast, chicken and turkey dinners. Her gravy, home baked bread and homemade noodles were delicious also. Mary enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and visiting family members. She is an avid sports fan of the Packers, Brewers and Cubs. She has followed their games on TV and attended a few of their games also. Some of Mary’s other interests include church, playing cards and bingo, and doing word search and jig saw puzzles. Her strength comes from a strong Catholic faith. Everyone acquainted with Mary saw her kindness, nice smile and considerate personality shine through God’s love. Mary retired to an apartment in Viroqua for a few years before moving to Janesville in 2000.

She is survived by her Children; Butch (Mary) Pedretti, Cathy (Ray) Faust, Janet Murphy, Mary Jo Pedretti and Dale Pedretti; 16 Grandchildren, 32 Great-Grandchildren and 15 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
