Marijuana legalization question may be coming to La Crosse County ballots
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Marijuana legalization may be on ballots for area voters to consider.
La Crosse County officials are exploring a possible referendum for the November elections.
The referendum would follow suit with Milwaukee County’s scheduled ballot question, as well as a possible referendum in Rock County south of Madison.
While the legality of marijuana has been discussed in the state, county leaders say this is a chance to consider more impacts of the drug.
“CBD has already been dealt with, but legalizing marijuana might be taxing it or not taxing it, those kinds of issues,” said Tara Johnson, Chair of the La Crosse County Board.
A 2016 poll conducted by the Marquette Law School found that 59 percent of registered Wisconsin voters surveyed agreed that marijuana should be fully legal and regulated like alcohol.
