Man charged with binding, sexually assaulting 16-year-old on trial

A trial has begun for a man accused of binding and sexually assaulting a 16-year-old while on a camping trip.

Christopher L. John has been charged with first degree sexual assault of a child under age 16 by use or threat of force or violence.

According to the criminal complaint, John went camping with the teen near the 7th Street boat landing by the Green Island Ice Arena in La Crosse for three nights. The victim told police on Sunday night John put duct tape over her mouth, ear and wrists and told her that if she tried anything he would kill her. He then sexually assaulted her.

John told La Crosse investigators he went camping with the teen, but said he never had any sexual contact and he would never do something like that.

John pled not guilty to the first degree sexual assault charge last July.

His trial is expected to last until Friday.
