Man arrested in connection to death, fire investigation in Chippewa Falls

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WKBT) — A man is in custody in connection to a death investigation in Chippewa Falls.

On Wednesday, first responders were called to 721 Superior Street for a house fire.

After the fire was out, investigators found one person dead inside the house. Authorities have identified the person but are waiting for the family to be notified before releasing their name.

Based on the investigation, authorities suspected foul play.

On Thursday, police took 58-year-old Scott Vaningan into custody.

According to Chippewa Falls Police, Vaningan was well-known to the victim and his last known address was the scene of the fire.
