Madison group to protest ‘Fifty Shades’ premiere
Protestors say movie represents unhealthy relationships, romanticizes violence
MADISON, Wis. (WISC) — A Madison-area group will be protesting the moving “Fifty Shades of Grey,” which is coming out Thursday.
They plan to picket the movie, which is based off a steamy romance novel.
The protesters believe the book and movie represent an unhealthy relationship and romanticize violence.
They plan to gather at Point Theater Thursday night with signs. They will also be handing out Valentines in hopes of getting their message across.
“We want to get the word out that this movie may promote unhealthy romantic and sexual behaviors, especially because it’s coming out at Valentine’s Day,” protest organizer Hasley Hazzard said. “We don’t want it promoting unhealthy ideas of romance, especially for younger women.”
